Product love

Luckily for you, dear readers, we are product junkies. We are always here to tell you what to buy to beautify and perfect.

Here's some recent great finds:

My favorite new hair ties. H got them for me for my bday (best gift giver, ever) and I love how they don't pull and tug at my fragile post-pregnancy locks! This set of 5 from Anthropologie is $12, but you can also check out this Very Jane deal that ends today: $3 for a set of 4 hair ties!

I'm sure I have written about this product before on here, but it is one of my all time favorites. Sometimes I stop using it for a while (gotta cycle through all of my million products) but every time I come back to it I get re-hooked! Strobe Cream is a moisturizer with crushed pearl pigments that give the best iridescent glow. It also has apple extract in it (which firms the skin) and caffeine (which awakens and refreshes!)

AG Firewall Spray is a thermal active spray for those of us with dry and thirsty strands. It is sans alcohol and instead has argan oil to smooth and protect! Here's what the company says about this product: "The NEW AG Hair Cosmetics Smooth Firewall Argan Flat Iron Spray absorbs heat and prevents breakage. Firewall dries the minute you spray it, so your iron can slip seamlessly through your hair. Plus it is infused Argan Oil. Translation: your iron keeps moving and your hair stays healthy."

I got this product as a sample when I ordered some shoes online from Target, and I am in love! Schick Intuition Plus boasts a cushion of silky shaving cream around the razor so it's a complete one-stop-shop (great for traveling and busy moms!) The cream moisturizes and allows for the softest shave in town. Try the pink one. You won't be disappointed.

I needed a new shampoo and my sister had been using the Sexy hair brand's Silky Sexy line (for thick, coarse hair) so I decided to give the brand a whirl. I tried the Healthy Sexy Hair line that is for color treated and fine, damaged hair. This is my favorite shampoo I've had in a long time! I love that it is made for thinner but damaged locks, because usually you don't see that combo! It thickens while silkening, which is not an easy task.

I was in the line at Nordstrom Rack the other day and these were on a shelf so I decided to try them. Burt's Bee's facial cleansing wipes are great for wiping off makeup in a hurry. They are citrusy scented and have white tea in them which makes them both refreshing and soothing to the skin.

wear a mask

Now that we are finally wrapping up summer (wishful thinking) and school has started,  it's time to moisturize your hair after having put it through the ringer.  Hot temperatures, chlorine, wind, sand, and sweat.  All things summer and all things that make for unhappy hair.  Let's give our hair a reason to thank us!

Do it yourself hair masks.  All with ingredients you should have at home!

CHLORINE FIX:

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons baking soda
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon mild shampoo
*Yields 2 ounces -- enough for one treatment

Directions: Mix together all the ingredients until well blended. Wet hair and massage the mixture onto your hair and scalp, making sure hair ends are coated. Cover hair with a plastic bag or shower cap and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse hair well and shampoo as usual.

Shedding?

Using herbs straight from your garden, mix up this hair remedy to leave your strands soft, shiny and to help minimize, um, shedding.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup of hot water
Rosemary
Sage
Fenugreek Seeds

*Note: You can find Fenugreek Seeds at your local seed store or online.

Directions: Crush a little bit of each herb (rosemary, sage and fenugreek seeds) with fingers and put into cheesecloth. Tie the cheesecloth and steep in hot water for 10 minutes -- this will make a very potent tea. Next, warm the olive oil on the stovetop and add the tea, blend well. Once mixture cools, apply to scalp and massage in, working through dry hair. You don't have to use the entire amount, just use enough to coat every strand (it shouldn't be dripping with oil). Wrap your hair in a towel or hair wrap. Leave for 20-30 minutes, shampoo out.

DULL and DRY?

Mix 1 egg yolk, 1 tbsp beer, 1 tbsp castor oil, 1 tbsp honey and cover hair from root to tips. Put on a plastic shower cap and wrap your head with a towel. Wash off after half an hour and do a final rinse with apple cider vinegar. Using this mask thrice a week gives excellent results.

Growing your Hair?

Sometimes strawberries can become overripe and unsuitable for eating or blending into milkshake. This is when you can use them in this marvelous hair pack. Take 1 cup of strawberries pureed in the mixer, and add 1 egg yolk, and 2 tbsp olive oil. Mix well till the concoction is uniform in texture. Work into the hair and cover with a plastic cap. Leave on for 20 mins. Wash off with a mild shampoo.

Oh!  And this isn't a mask but I wanted to include it b/c it sounded interesting.  In no way do I think this is something that should be done on a regular basis but when in an emergency:

WHEN YOUR HAIR STARTS GETTING GREASY ...

Ask for a hand wipe.

If your bangs are starting to stick to your forehead and your roots are feeling oily come dessert time, grab a hand wipe (an alcohol-based mini antibacterial hand gel will also do the trick) and rub a small amount through your hair. The alcohol in these wipes will help absorb oil by drying out the hair follicles.

BB Cream

New beauty craze alert: BB Creams.

Have you heard about this?

I learned about BB Creams a few years ago when MAC created a special line of them to only be released in Asia. Asia was the first area to introduce BB creams and they took off from there!

"BB" stands for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm. Here's the scoop: this cream is usually used in lieu of foundation so it is ideal for those of you who already use tinted moisturizer. (although it can be used underneath foundation for extra coverage and protection). Think of it as tinted moisturizer on crack. At Disneyland. Eating cotton candy. This skin care-meets makeup concoction is touted as a tinted moisturizer, SPF, primer, anti ager, and pimple treatment all in one! Cosmetics companies have caught on to Asia's remarkable cream and have come out with dozens of options for the consumers (us!).

Here's the best of the best (and why it's so great):

Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream $13: ideal if you want a little more coverage than just a tinted moisturizer (contains minerals)

Clinique Age Defense BB Cream $37: ideal for fair skin tones

Two-Faced Beauty Balm $32: provides dewiness for extra fresh skin

Either of the Dr. Jart Beauty Balms $34-$39: hydration station dot com
Stila Stay All Day Beauty Balm $38: hides wrinkles and pores. great for picture taking

Have any of you tried BB Creams yet? What's your experience?

Birthday Month

It's August, y'all.
And you know what that means.
My birthday!! (let's pretend I'm not in my late 20's.)

Here's my list for this year:

Necklace $48 Anthropologie

 Anchor cardigan from J.Crew

Immersion blender for my nightly milkshakes (I'm tired of mixing them by hand. Plus this is so cute!)

Clarisonic (preferably the green one)

This list is totally reasonable. Someone send the links to my husband.
