FTF slash reader question

Time for another reader question, and lucky for me, I get to kill two birds with one fashionable stone as we tackle two topics today: Fashion Tip Friday and a Reader Question!

Our inquiry comes from Hillary {not our H, but another darling H!}:

Hi H & C,
I love your blog! You are both adorable and give great advice! For Christmas I got a darling pair of brown leather boots but the problem is I have the hardest time finding a good pair of skinnies or jeggings. It is impossible to wear boots with regular jeans and I know I look frumpy in them anyways. I am petite but I still just don't feel cute in skinnies or jeggings. Do you have a preference between skinnies or jeggings and where do you like to buy them? Also is there a specific type of top that looks cute with them?

LOVE this question, H! I think it is one that is common and yet hardly ever voiced.

These days skinny jeans have taken on a whole new level of skinniness in the form of jeggings. Yes, we have mentioned this new fashion fad several times already on this blog. However, jeggings deserve the cult following they are receiving. Let's break this down: Jeggings are jeans that look and feel like leggings! They are practically tight yoga pants that are acceptable to wear in public. YAY! The jegging has revolutionized the skinny jean...maybe forever. I for one just cannot wear or look at my plain old skinny jeans the same way anymore. They just aren't tight enough or stretchy enough now that I have experienced the comfort and ease of the jegging.

Jeggings come in a wide variety of prices, colors, shapes, and fits. Here's my advice: when shopping for jeggings, take me with you. Just kidding. But seriously, the best thing to do is to go somewhere that they have a wide selection of jeggings, grab an armful, and head straight to a dressing room. {here's another tip: leave the kiddos with the hubby.} Plan to concentrate on the fit and color and come up with a basic idea of the ones you like best on your body. My personal favorite jeggings come from Gap {shocking} but I have heard amazing things about the ones from Old Navy, the BP section in Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, and even Target and Forever 21. There is no need to spend a million dollars on these jeans {unless you find a pair that is absolute perfection and you must have them. obviously.}

Here are some examples of jeggings with good reputations:

This is the kinda of jegging I was scared of. No pockets, zipper or button...basically a pair of glorified tights! H got me some for my birthday and once I tried them I LIVED in them. Seriously, so comfortable it feels like you're in jammies.

A couple of basic rules...

As always, you need to balance out the tighty tightness of the jeggs with a longer or blousier top. DO NOT tuck anything into jeggings unless they have a button, zipper, and pockets. Otherwise you will be just a girl with a shirt tucked into stretchy pants. Not a good look {especially for the butt-region}.

When in doubt, choose black or the darkest denim wash possible...can you say SLIMMING??

Moral of the story: While it's in style, choose jeggings over skinny jeans. Picking out jeggings is a lot like searching for a perfect pair of jeans. It can be super annoying and time consuming and {sometimes} downright depressing...but press on! It will be worth it when you can slide those new boots on over your jeggings with ease.

Christmas Loot

'Twas a good Christmas at the Rogers' household. This may or may not be due to the fact that I pretty much bought, and subsequently knew about, all of my presents. Don't get me wrong: I love surprises. But my conversation to my husband basically goes something like this:

C: "I want you to get me something super fab for Christmas, but I want it to be a surprise."
Hudson: "Well can you give me a hint?"
C: "No. I wish I could, but I don't even know what I want. I guess I'll know it when I see it." {cut to me buying 90% of my gifts...hmmm I wonder why??}

Hudson tries so hard to get me something amaze-balls every year. I like to imagine that I am super easy to shop for. Apparently that's not the case?

However, I was pleasantly surprised by Hudson's gift of choice this year {literally. he gave me a choice.}

Dear readers, which shall I go for?
The Canon Rebel XS or the new Amazon Kindle?

While we are concentrating about that decision, I will share with you the rest of my Christmas loot:

A Flip Camera.
Do you guys have one of these? It.is.awesome. I feel like a filmographer. Is that a word? Perhaps I should say videographer. Either way. I'm practically professional.

duh.

I have been wanting a rose gold watch for FOREVER. When I went on a last minute gift run for H {more on that later} I impulse bought myself this one {it was on sale!} with the rationalization that I would probably return it.
No can do.
I put it under the tree for myself and have worn it everyday since.
You may think that rose gold isn't versatile enough.
I am here to tell you that it is!!

btw-in case you were wondering {or care} rose gold is created when yellow gold is mixed with copper. I know, I am a wealth of knowledge.

And as for the {save the best for last} gift, my little sister bought me and my mom and older sis an all expenses paid trip to NYC! Can you believe?!

so.excited.

What was your favorite gift this year???

That said, I would like to also announce a weeklong blog hiatus. As much as we love blogging, we think our readers {and ourselves} need a slight break to spend time with family. Weekend Wardrobe

I have this thing about matching. Basically, I don't want to match. I much prefer eclectic color combos, as I find them to be more visually interesting than the traditional. I have found that people will say, "I can never put an outfit together!" Is it because you are restricting yourself based on old fashioned rules of color schemes?
I like to think of my outfits as a way for me to express my individuality, personality and mood. Rules just don't fit into this creative regime of mine. Such is the case most days of the week. This WW is no exception.

Without further ado, here is my "un-matched" outfit for this weekend {mostly centered around these new turq earrings that I LOVE!}

Ruffle shirt: GAP
Cardi: TARGET
Jeggings: GAP
Turquoise earrings: F21 (recent)

Also, I'd like to point out that this is my new favorite hair style. I'll let you in on a little secret: if you braid your hair, most people will think you spent time on it. Rumor has it that I have been wearing my hair in a multitude of braid variations for 2 weeks now. {just saying.}
