De ja Vu for You

SO this week on the Beauty Mark. I thought I would do a suprise Weekend Wardrobe...beause let's face it. I can't promise I will be dressed to the NINES this weekend. And I thought you might like to know what I wore to work.
Seeing as it is De Ja Vu week I did a {twist} on C's hair 'do. Pun intended. I thought that french twisting the hair back might be easier for those who might be stylistically challenged perhaps? So instead of finishing off the twist {or braid} and pinning it under, you simply put it in a messy side bun. Voila! Baby steps people! You can do it.
Cardigan: Target
Gray Tank: Gap
Teal belt: Urban Outfitters
Capris: Nordstrom
Necklace: Macy's
Earrings: Habit Salon

ampersand

I kind of really love the "&" sign.

Is that weird?

I came across this necklace and my heart skipped a beat.

I have pretty much been asking Hudson for it since Valentines Day, but I feel like it is not the same if I have to order it myself {which, incidentally I would, since he probably would not get the order right}.

Necklace found here.

Should I just bite the bullet and buy the necklace myself?

{and just in case you were wondering, I would have the initials be "H" & "C" and the word be "bear" instead of love, since that is what me and Hudson {pretty much exclusively}
call each other. I know. Cute huh.}

WW: deja vu

WARNING: This Weekend Wardrobe is what occurs when you shop with your best friend and buy all the same clothes. We should live together. It would be cheaper to only buy one of everything instead of double.

Anyway. I guess it is fun to see how we each styled the outfit differently.

Dress: GAP
White Shirt: D.E.B.
Shoes: BCBG
Belt: F21
Neckaces: F21 and vintage
I'll shamelessly admit this: {H} did wear her outfit on Friday and I wore mine Sunday. But I copied her because I had no creative juices left after styling a photo shoot and doing
18 girl's makeup (photo shoots and prom) this weekend.

Weekday Wardrobe: HAIR

When attempting to fulfill my promise of posting a weekday wardrobe, I realized, Maybe I should post a picture of my Hair Wardrobe from this week. As in, this is how I have worn my hair everyday since Monday (don't worry, I re-did it everyday. I'm not that gross)

Before you check out my 'do, just remember that I still have a plethora of baby hairs that are in the growing phase from when I lost half my hair mass after baby. Sad song.

That said, I love love love wearing my hair in braids. I parted my hair on the side and french braided it around my head {when I was little I used to call this style a "hair crown." I still might call it that}.

It is the PERFECT way to keep your hair out of your face, it looks interesting, and it is great for the hot summer we have approaching us.
By the by, do you love my new highlights? They are a super subtle peek-a-boo situation crafted for yours truly by our own lovely {H}! They were inspired by a long list of celebs who I see toss their hair and beg the question: "Are those shimmering highlights I just saw?!" Since I'm not one for streaky color or obvious highlights, these girls give me hope in retaining a natural color with dimension . My list of celebrity hair muses who invoke the same hair philosophy are: Camilla Alves, Sandra Bullock, and Rachel Bilson.

Until next time.

El Sea

Lauren Conrad.
tincy uhhhbsessed.

So I was flipping through my Glamour mag when I stumble upon. -{CUT!}
let's be honest.

I was anxiously filtering through the pages of my Glamour mag until I reached the interview with LC. And as much as I made fun of Laguna and the Hills (we're being honest here) I secretly wanted to be friends with them. Just a little. So. Back to the interview...I was BEYOND ecstatic when I read-

Glamour: Have you ever tried hair extensions or is this all your own?

LC: Well, I consider it mine because i own it (laughs) but these are all extensions. I chopped all my hair off to my shoulders. I thought I was doing a chic bob. It was so bad. I have the taped-in ones, which are great, because they lie flat when you pull your hair into a pony tail. I couldn't do the individual ones; they feel like bugs!

Ok. First off. Her hair is beautiful and it just makes me feel that much better about myself that it is FAKE FAKE FAKE (honesty). I know what you're thinking- (did {H} really not know she had extensions?) My answer is: 99.9% of the time I can tell when people have extensions. It's a gift really (or bad extension job). BUT I refuse to believe that my idols are anything but au natural. They wake up looking that good, right?
For example, Olivia Palermo (The City). I believe in my heart of hearts that there is not one extension on her stylish head. Courtney thinks I live in a dream world. I refuse to believe otherwise so don't try persuading me.

Secondly. I have done my research and found out that her extensions are a little something they like to call "EasiLengths" that are Damage Free, Reusable, Take approx 30 min to put in and 10 to take out. Sounds like a DREAM. I am in the process of trying to get my professional hands on them. Wish me luck!
PS. LC's wardrobe staple?
"sky high black high heel BDG from Urban Outfitters
they're affordable and i go through them so quickly..."
must get myself to UO ASAP

Zooey, dear Zooey

Do you know who Zooey Deschanel is? She is the most vintage dreamboat I have ever laid eyes on.

When I first described my obsession with her {that may or may not have been piqued by someone claiming I look like her}, to H, she simply did not understand my fascination. In fact, she was like, "I don't see what you see."

Let me open your eyes, dear friend.

First of all, you may know Zooey from such movies as Elf, Yes Man, Failure to Launch, and, most notably, 500 Days of Summer. You must see this movie. Anyway.

In my eyes, Zooey is perfection.
That hair! Those bangs! That makeup! Those clothes!

In my opinion, the best thing about her {besides her overall dreaminess} is her band. She sings for a band called She and Him and it is simply fantastical. The music is reminiscent of the oldies with Zooey belting out the self-written tunes in her sultry voice and signature style.

Here are some photos of the lovely Zooey for your enjoyment and eye candy.

btw, she is my hair inspiration. and every time I see her bangs I want to cut mine really bad.

Admit it, a new obsession has been awakened from inside you and you will probably go out and buy Zooey's CD's (which are called She and Him Volume One, and Volume Two, respectively) tomorrow.

P.S. Don't be mad at me and H for our lack of Weekend Wardrobe. I will make it up to you by posting a Weekday Wardrobe this week. K? Thanks.

Oh! And don't forget to sign up for my makeup classes (see previous post). I have a few spots left!!!

Chateau Couture

hi my name is {H} and i am a stalker.
first step is admitting it.

style and home decor beyond compare?
two words.
shayce igleski

this chick is unlike any other. she totally knows what's up. i asked this fine lady if i could feature her on our blog and to our great pleasure, she obliged. I wanted to pick her brain and see just where she comes up with all of her ideas. Here is what she said:

"As for where I get my inspiration: I literally find it in everyday life, it is all around. sometimes I study other people's talent and transform some ideas or techniques into design and apply it where I can. Nature is a big inspiration, using living elements and incorporating them in a design is a must!! I really am inspired by good architecture and vintage design, there is nothing like it.. lines, character, color... lets face it there was a lot of good stuff way back when. I love using things that serve a purpose and creating something with it in a completely new way that has not yet been seen. I absolutely love and crave what I do on a daily basis, it is in my blood constantly pulling me to create something great. As corny as that may sound I don't know of any other way to describe it. "

lucky for us she has just started a website so ya'll can find out what she's all about. just to give you an idea, she completely renovated my salon head-to-toe amazing. without further ado, i bring you...

be inspired.

These pictures are just a taste of her site. you seriously need to check it out.
Also, each month she has a special featured item from her personal designs which ranges from bedding to artwork to amazing lighting. This is in addition to her 'total obsessions' category which also has a monthly featured item or two. I know I will be checking back often.
hence the stalking...

WW Sunday Best

I am mildly bored with my regular day to day outfits. It's time to switch it up. I am excited that skirt and dress weather is among us. This week at church, I opted out of patterned tights for the first time since October. Let's be honest, no one wants to see my albino legs. But don't you worry your pretty little head, I utilized some Fake Bake lotion on these gams before I showed them to the world.

Oh! And did you know that nude colored shoes make your legs look long and dreamy? I need all the help I can get.
Plain White Tee: Gap
Skirt: Nordstrom Rack (love that it came with this waist band that doubles as a belt)
Shoes: Madden Girl

Makeup How-To

Okay. I have been getting many requests to conduct makeup classes. I seem to get asked about this a lot, and although it is something I have done in the past, I have not given much thought about doing it again until recently. I REALLY want to help everyone out there who is makeup challenged. And I am not being sarcastic. I love helping people be pretty. It's my favorite.

So, this is how it is going to work. I am going to teach classes on Friday, May 14, and Saturday, May 15. I will have two classes on each day, with 5 people allowed in each class {Cause I really want to be able to give as much personal attention as I can!!} The class will be ONE HOUR and the cost for each person is {get this} $15!!! I am doing a super-duper cheap special to be able to accommodate everyone who wants help. {Cause like I said, I am a great helper}

The times for the classes are:

Friday, May 14th:
11 am
1 pm

Saturday, May 15th:
10 am
12 pm

If you want to sign up for these classes,
EMAIL me at ourbeautymark@hotmail.com
ASAP with which class you want to attend, in order to reserve your spot. Tell all your friends so you can get in a class together. The classes will be held at my house in Mesa, and I think it is going to be really fun!!

Oh, and I am not done with my attempt to help everyone. I will also be conducting private individual lessons that will include a
makeup consultation/application/lesson/overhaul
for anyone who desires a little more one-on-one attention. This is $80 and I will come to your house for these lessons. Email me and we can work out a time that is best for both of us!

Also, keep checking back for some amazing news regarding Mother's Day gifts
{we have the best idea ever.}

Makeover Extravaganza

Attention readers!!
We have fulfilled another makeover fantasy.
This one stars Auburn, the lucky winner of our fab giveaway!

She was such a peach to work with, we all hit it off immediately! Practically bff.

To start with, Auburn was super stylish and sassy and she really wanted a hairstyle to match. She came in with a blunt one length cut, and color on the brink of fade-central. She wanted to take her hair to a dreamy dark level with some coppery dimension-savvy highlights. Ala Leighton Meester (love her). Blair, what would we do without your inspriation? We gave her some long layers seeing as how she wanted to keep the length. This only further showcased her multi-dimensional 'do.

Next was the makeup. We looked through Auburn's collection of her daily-use cosmetics to help her understand what does and doesn't work for her particular features. After the makeup overhaul, Auburn requested natural and golden makeup for her busy day to day routine. After evening out her skin tone with a tinted moisturizer, sweeping on some peachy-coral blush, we put our focus on Auburn's gorgeous blue-green eyes. We used a shimmery peach on her lid, highlighted with a vanilla shade, and used a orange-based brown for her crease and liner to bring out the flecks of turquoise in her eyes. To put the finishing touch, we added two coats of thickening mascara and false lashes to the ends of her lash line. We topped it all off with a touch of peach gloss.
We also rewarded Auburn's blog dedication with a MAC goodie bag!!

Are you in suspense yet?

Voila!!!

What is a good makeover without a fantastic photographer to document the amazing before and after?! Check out his mad skills on his site!!

We had to post one photo of the dream team :)

We think she looks incredible, but we want to validate that opinion with YOUR comments!

who wears short shorts?

First and FOREMOST, I have to give a shout out to all of our readers! I am so gratefully overwhelmed by the all the questions we've received from YOU. It gives me so much satisfaction to know that all the time and {money} I've devoted to the fashion gods is going to benefit others as well. That said, this question comes from Jamie.

"So I love both of your styles so much. I have a question. I'm in dyer need of some shorts for this summer. I just turned 30 and I stay at home with my two little boys 2 and 4. I need some shorts that aren't "mommy" shorts but aren't teenie bopper shorts either. I'm loving the new "rolled" style but they may be too short for me. I need something that hits just above my knee. I am curious if you have any tips or recommendations for this summer's new shorts style and where to get them without paying an arm and a leg too, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks! Keep up the fun blog. I check it all the time."

I am in LOVE with Seven's Dojo Capris. They fit wonderfully and hit just below the knee. It's amazing how one foot of fabric can make such a difference in the "cooling you off" factor. They have a little stretch which is muy bueno. And I wear them every day in the summer. I have never been a shorts girl but I will have to try some of these new finds for sure. I feel like you need one investment pair of shorts/capris that you will be able to wear for years and wear often. Try Nordstrom Rack and don't be afraid to try on numerous pairs! I hope that helps.

These little beauties are from shopbop.com. Paige Denim.
A worthy investment. and YES they are not really shorts. whatever.

I know you said you didn't want to spend an arm and a leg. Could you justify an arm? Nordstrom. And adorable.

Here are Courtney's Favorite from Ann Taylor Loft. Unfortunately I couldn't get a picture up but click on the link it's well worth your time. They are the most comfortable shorts, plus the perfect length cause you have the option of rolling them twice, once, or not at all. They are PERFECT for summer, super light-weight, and totally worth the money. I bought them in gray but I want them in every color. The boyfriend style is so in, and I am glad cause I don't like wearing fitted shorts!

These shorts are from GAP. kinda the same style but the cuff is sewn so depending on your height you may or may not want to take the stich out. Also, their plain bermuda shorts are amazing, super classic and comfy.

oh. and bless you for not wanting to look like these ladies.

Reader Question: concealer

Our next reader question comes courtesy of Alisse:

"I am wondering what your favorite concealer is.
I don't usually wear anything but eye makeup and some lipgloss, so I'm not sure what would be the best for my situation. I've never worn foundation, but occasionally will wear powder.
Every concealer I try either doesn't match my pale skin or makes the blemish more obvious by looking dry/peely."

Okay, it sounds like you have slightly dry skin. My suggestion would be to wear a tinted moisturizer (go here, or here) everyday that will give your skin moisture, SPF, and a little bit of coverage. This will help with some unsightly spots. If you are still wanting to move into concealer, I suggest something that is a little bit on the pinker side, because a yellow-based concealer will look really yellow on pale skin. It is hard to say what color to use unless I know what brand you like, but something light-weight is probably best.

According to my sources and research, the best {drugstore} concealer is
L'Oreal Paris True Match
As always, I go with what I know, which is MAC. I like the Select Moisturecover because it is lightweight and won't make your blemish look "dry and peely" :)

While we are the topic of concealers, I need to vent. My BEYOND FAVORITE under-eye concealer is discontinued! Why does this always happen to me? Grrr.
Last week I went into Ulta, minding my own business, my $5 off $10 coupon burning a hole in my pocket, and was blindsided by the news that my beloved concealer is no longer available.

After hours of searching online, I found some on CVS {and I might have bought several.} It is called Sally Hansen Fast Fix Concealer All-Over-Brightener. The line is by Carmindy, the lovely make-up artist on What Not to Wear. And let me share this exclusive secret with you. You can still find the concealer here!!! Let me know if you buy it. And seriously, this is my ultimate under-eye concealer, one of my tricks of the trade.

Weekend Wardrobe: Party Time

This weekend we had my son, Dean's, first birthday party! This was my ensamble:
Blousy white shirt: Gap (I waited patiently for it to go on sale from $60 to $22. Yay for me!)
Gray skinny capris with side zipper: Old Navy
Mustard yellow wedges: Old Navy (I know! Can you believe?!)
Necklace and belt: Forever 21

OOh and I got a pic with H since she graced us with her presence at the party. I'll let her tell you what she is wearing.
