swim suit season

i'm one of those people that has a unreasonable amount of swimwear.
this one needs to make the collection. my love of swimsuit shopping is always slighted by the 150 degree arizona weather which inevitably accompanies the season.
and with that i write this letter.

Dear Summer Weather,
Please don't be too hot. I recently purchased my baby this ruched rosette vintage swim cap (found here) and would really appreciate some nice warm weather. Not the kind that turns the pool into a sweltering hot bath and melts my havaianas to the concrete.
sincerely yours,

A couple beauties from J Crew. Simple. Adorable. Crew-style.

Reader Question: SKIN

Our first inquiry is a common one, and it goes like this:

"Hey guy's love your blog, your weekend style post are awesome and made me realize, you guys both have great skin. you should write about your skin secrets. because I am constantly on the lookout for something that works better for my bratty skin."

Now, we are not tooting our own horn here. Both H and I have had skin troubles. I won't speak for her, but to speak for myself, my biggest issue is melasma mask (A.K.A. pregnancy mask) and sun spots. You may be thinking to yourself, Um, Courtney is pretty pale so how does she have sun spots?

Baby oil and hours of laying out, my friends.

You see, I used to think I was naturally tan. Natural, that is, through laying out and going to tanning beds. Those bad habits are long gone, but I am officially stuck with the damage. I did not realize its extent until I went to aesthetics school and looked in one of those mirrors with the black light...Do you know what I am talking about? Anyway, it showcased all my severe damage and, needless to say, after seeing my future wrinkled face, I put an end to my sun worshipping. It has not been easy, mind you.

This is my skin care advice/regimen
{it might sound generic, but the best advice usually is}

Sunscreen!!! Everyday, even if it is cloudy or raining.

Wash your face with a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. Don't know your skin type? Here are some simple indicators:
(obviously there are several skin types, and not all respond the same way, but this is a basic lesson, so don't shoot the messenger)

Does your face get shiny throughout the day? Does your makeup not stay on very long? Those are indicators of oily skin. Oily skin is sometimes associated with acne, so it is good to use a cleanser with Salicylic acid in it.
How does your skin feel after you wash it? If it feels tight, you most likely have dry skin and would benefit from a creamy cleanser.

Moisturize! Even if your skin is oily, this is super important. Sometimes dry skin is disguised as oily because the oil is attempting to over-compensate for the actual dryness. Make sense? Use a moisturizer based on your skin moisture needs.

Use serums, and other products (such as spot treaters) as your skin needs arise. For example, for my sun spots I use something with licorice and kojic acid in it, which stops the skin from producing more melanin (color).

Last, but certainly not least, exfoliate!!!! It is super important to exfoliate at least once a week. If you don't, all the good serums and lotions you are putting on your face are going to waste because they cannot absorb into layers and layers of dead skin. Word to the wise: be careful with physical scrubs that have beads or other exfoliants in them. You do not want to scrub your face off. Be gentle and let the ingredients marinate on your gorgeous face and do their job.

And FYI...
My favorite brand of skin care is Image. I like it because they have a little bit of everything for all skin needs. Email us for more information!

Hope this mini-lesson provided you with some answers!!

WW...or lack thereof

This weekend was crazy. As in, I did not get out of my pj's. Dean had the flu so I kept getting thrown up on, hence the no cuteness factor. I did manage to get one picture of myself, looking the way I felt all weekend: tired, fed up, frumpy.

What's that you say? You love my nail polish? Thanks!! Looks like me and H had the same idea for a coraly-peach spring time shade. Although, I have to admit, I am pretty sure our inspiration came from the same place, a MAC nail lacquer that was so beyond sold out that they don't even feature it online anymore. Frown.

I managed to find this suitable replacement, Peachy Keen from China Glaze's new Up and Away Collection. Super cute. And when I look at it, it makes me smile.
Okay, and guess what else? We are going to debut a new regular blog addition since we keep getting reader questions and would LOVE to answer them using the blog as our forum!
So, if you have any:
style/fashion/hair/makeup/beauty/skin inquiries
{I make us sound so knowledgeable huh} PLEASE do us the honor of sending your questions our way and we will answer them here for all to see {Don't worry, we'll keep it anonymous :)}

Thanks for your loyalty!
Happy reading!

WW at the Spa

This weekend wardrobe was brought to you by:
Forever 21: Romper
Target: Swimsuit
(you will come to find that i am mildly obsessed with swimwear)

I spent a lovely day at Cloud 9. Every mom, woman, daughter, sister, and granddaughter deserves a little spa day. If I could I would have a facial every day of my life. Oh to be a celebrity... I have been half- asleep since the massage. So fun!

My toes were painted with this lovely color:

OPI Hot and Spicy - Hong Kong Collection {a new favorite cause it makes me look tanner than I really am}
Need something fun to do in AZ? Biltmore Fashion Park does "movies in the park" every weekend from now until April 30th. So grab your family, a blanket, and a picnic basket and enjoy the great weather before it's long gone! (April 2nd is ROMAN HOLIDAY, oh Audrey, I'm quite certain that we were besties in another life)

I really love my...

Sometimes for Weekend Wardrobe I am embarrassed to post what I am wearing because it is always the same idea. Skinny jeans, flats, shirt, cardigan. I have a mild (ahem, large) obsession with cardigans. I am seriously starting to panic thinking about the AZ summer, wondering, what am I going to wear?!?! Cardigans are my wardrobe staple and I cannot bear to part with them. Perhaps I will just have to concede to sweat to death in the name of fashion.

This is kind of how my closet is organized (ok, ok. maybe not quite so tidy). I feel the need to have all my cardigans folded in piles according to style (long sleeve, boyfriend, short sleeve, etc.) This way, I can see all my options at once. Well, maybe it is mostly because I try on approximately three cardigans with each outfit and I hate hanging them all back up every time. It is my simple solution.

As for now, I am officially on the lookout for some summer-time cardis that will mix well with the AZ sun (or at least, not give me heat stroke).

BFF wardrobe

We can't help it if we buy the same things when we go shopping together. In fact, these shirts were buy one get one half off! Score! {you can't blame us, we are so thrifty}

I know you were thinking it, so let's just lay it out on the table.
It's all the SAME:
Shirt {Express}
Necklace {Macy's}
Lipgloss {MAC Smile Dazzleglass}
Winged eyeliner (MAC Blacktrack}

But we swear we did not plan the twisted bangs or wavy 'do. Promise. Strictly coincidence.

Pretty Pout

I have a new love. Petal Pink Addict Lip Polish.

You've done it again Christian.

A fitting post for St. Patrick's day.
Yours truly was feeling the Irish look. And what with the buzz about makeovers, I felt like I was deserving. I hereby declare this "MAKEOVER SEASON!" Which gives you every right and reason to be slightly self indulgent and treat yourself to a new look. Something that makes you feel amazing.

Being that I am a Hair Stylist I often am asking my hubby "what should I do with my hair?" "what do you think would be the most flattering thing on me?" "should I cut it?" "sweetie, does it look like I have split ends??" "should I do my hair straight or curly?" Yadda...yadda...yadda. Am I the only one asking these questions on a daily basis? It's a good thing the only opinion my husband ever gave me {concerning my hair} was not to go red or spiky. This one is for you babe.
Please excuse the far-from-professional picture and enjoy the before and after.

And YES, I know my lips are in need of a Peachy gloss. So sorry people.
Better before or after.
Nice for a change?

Here are some hair inspiration pictures to get you started on your own Makeover!

Oscars 2010

I fancy myself a fashion police of sorts. I also enjoy watching the actual Fashion Police (a.k.a. Khloe Kardashian, Joan Rivers, Guiliana Rancic, and Jay Manuel) on the E! channel following awards shows. A word to the wise to Joan Rivers: You have had your moment. It is time to pass your 90-year-old torch on to a younger {and less nipped, tucked, and Botoxed} fashion critic. Plus, you always talk about how "chubby" actresses are. Like, you said that Kate Winslet has "a weight problem." You're done in my book.

Oh, how I love awards season. I look forward to my weekly magazines coming in the mail so I can pour over the fashion do's and don'ts of the previous awards ceremony. I just wish the Rachel Zoe Project was back on t.v. so I could see awards season from her ever-clever, and always fashionable, point of view. Here are some of my worst and best dressed from the Oscars:

Some of you may not agree with me...

Nicole Richie was probably the best dressed of the night for me in her 60's inspired beaded Reem Acra gown. She looked gorgeous. The hair was perfection, although the makeup was a little too Twiggy-esque, but she still pulled it off.

Surprise of the night: Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham. Her makeup was flawless and I thought this dress was fantastic. Although I would make two modifications: The bodice was a little tight and, Miley, please stand up straight.

Oh, Charlize. You are too pretty for this bridesmaid-dress-meets-Madonna-cone-bra ensemble. {Dior Couture} Sorry, darling. Worst dressed of the night.

Okay. Props to Kristen Stewart for actually trying, and for pulling her mullet into an updo for once. This Monique Lhuillier gown is gorgeous, except where are the jewels? She needs some accessorizing. Stat.

People might hate me for this one. I do not like this dress on Penelope Cruz {Donna Karan Couture}. It looks like a prom dress and the color is not ideal, although she does look good in everything, this was just a bizarre choice for the Oscars. Check her out at the Golden Globes though:
This Giorgio Armani Prive gown is probably my all time favorite from awards season. Flawless.

Now for Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. The more I look at the dress, the more I like it. My favorite part of the whole thing is the sleek hair and pink-red lipstick. It looks fab on her. I can't decide if I like her better at the SAG awards {Alexander McQueen}. The cobalt blue sequins and shoulder pads are kind of awesome.

Well, there's my recap. Hope you enjoyed it!

belt it

Last week, my 8-year-old nephew said to me, "Do you wear a belt everyday? Cause it sure seems like it." Why, yes, Griffin. Thank you for noticing. I do enjoy me a belt, maybe a little too often.

You see, I feel like a belt makes my clothing more flattering whilst hiding imperfections and jazzing up an outfit. So multi-functional. If someone asked me what they could do to change up their wardrobe, I would reply simply "BELTS."

I have many belts and I don't know where to store them. Right now they have taken residence on my bedroom floor, in an organized mess I like to call "pile of belts." My mom tells me it is this said pile that makes my room look messy. {Yes, I am married with a child and my mom still feels the need to bring to my attention my messiness. Don't judge, people.} The problem is, I cannot find a suitable storage solution for my belts that will allow me to sufficiently check out all my options at once. Hence the pile.

I like to buy my belts at Forever 21 and Nordstrom (BP, and preferably on sale). I also have a collection of vintage belts. I cannot rationalize spending $20+ on a belt. You see, I would rather spend that money on something else. Not something practical, mind you. But something like a pair of jeans, shoes, a new necklace, etc, see the problem?

Belt wardrobes should have distinguished variety, much like a normal wardrobe. There needs to be plain as well as fancy, wide as well as skinny, colored as well as neutral. I am on the lookout for a cobalt blue skinny belt. The other day it occurred to me, "This outfit needs a cobalt blue belt." Keep your eyes peeled and let me know if you find one.

hippie chic

I too, have many "I really love my ____" items. As of late, I have been slightly Uhhbsessed with (boots) and a little something I like to call headbands.
::headbands headbands headbands::
Can't get enough of them. Why, might you ask?
1. They are pretty
2. Anything anthropologie has on sale, I must buy.
(hint: you are more likely to find them on sale in stores)
3. They are one of those things that people compliment
(let's be honest, we all love a little compliment once in awhile)
4. The hair is two days grease-fest and they work wonders in hiding it.

Ps. Did you hear the latest? We are doing the biggest giveaway known to man. We'll just say it's worth your time to blog-stalk us every hour until then. Time is ticking!!

"i really love my..."

I am a repeat-outfit offender. I will gladly admit it. If I was a celebrity, I would be on one of those pages that says "I really love my..." and then has a bunch of pictures of a celebrity wearing the same accessory, shirt, shoes or whatever, time and time again.

Although H and I have several "I really love my..." moments, we would like to document a few of the most recent obsessions that are dominating our everyday wardrobe choices. {not at the same time, of course. you have to stay tuned. so suspenseful}

When I first saw these shoes at Gap, I was with H at Scottsdale Mall and we spotted the beauties at the same moment. This was our conversation:

C: LOOK at those mustard yellow flats! Die.
H: We for sure have to buy those. Look, they have them in our size!
C: I am not spending $40 on those shoes. Everything at Gap goes on sale. I am going to wait.
H: Are you sure? What if they run out?
C: I do this all the time. You just have to keep checking back.

Cut to a couple weeks later, and I have fully decided that I cannot possibly live without the aforementioned shoes. I go to Gap at one mall, sold out. Another mall, sold out. They did not even sell them online! I began to panic.

Soon enough I am on the phone with every Gap in the state {you think I am exaggerating?} desperately trying to locate these dream shoes. "I should have listened to H!"

I finally tracked down ONE pair in MY size at a Gap in west Phoenix. You better believe I drove myself over there right then to get them. Sadly, H never got her mustard yellow flats, and every time I wear them I feel bad that I have them and she doesn't. But not bad enough to give them up or stop wearing them everyday. :)

Want your own mustard yellow flats? Obviously you can't have mine. But you can get a similar style with these {thanks again, Target}.

And if you are thinking: "What would I wear mustard yellow shoes with?" My answer would, of course, be {everything!} They are practically a neutral.

Flat Boots

This week I REALLY love my Steve Madden Cybul Boots.
I'm guilty of being a repeat offender. Who cares?
We all do it right?
I will rationalize because I love them so much. Why have I never owned a pair of brown boots? I have coveted brown flats for so many years's about time, and wear them out I will!

Here are some other little yummies I came across. And yes, I know Rachel Bilson is on there twice. And yes I am irrevocably infatuated with her {style}.

We all love makeovers right?! I mean, it's practically one of my favorite things in life. So we commissioned this girl to make us a custom header and buttons and are so excited about the results!! Loves it.

By the way, take a button, don't be shy!

And..just prepare yourself for a serious giveaway this week. I mean, for reals. You're gonna die. We are practically giving away the farm.
